Vendor Spotlight: heysmartypants
Here at the Kapiti Indoor Market we love our amazing vendors and today we are spotlighting the super talented Helene from heysmartypants.
Tell us about your business including how and why you started?
I have always wanted to own my own business and started my graphic design company 18 years ago in Wellington. Every year I created beautiful, creative gifts for my clients as a thank you and someone said "you should sell these". So I trotted down to a local NZ made store and started selling my greeting cards. That was 6 years ago!
Tell us about your products and what makes them unique?
I create, greeting cards, card sets, calendars, wrapping papers, notebooks, colouring books, flash cards and posters – al the artwork is created by me and printed in New Zealand on sustainable stocks
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I'm a real outdoorsy person, LOVE nature and have worked for DOC in various roles when was young, so i'm and deeply inspired by New Zealand flora and fauna.
What do you love most about attending the Kapiti Indoor Market?
Being with like minded people, meeting new people, connecting with my customers which is always such a positive experience. The market is really well run so there are no surprises!
What do you think the most important thing people should know about shopping local?
That the product is unique, well made, using New Zealand talent and resources. That there is a connection...
From the the products you make do you have a favourite item and if so why?
Notebooks are my new favourite – it is something I have wanted to create since I was a kid. Wrapping paper is my constant favourite and now have 21 kinds in the range.
Is there anywhere outside the market your goods can be purchased?
